Aside from the frequently asked question of how long will Cyberpunk 2077’s playtime will be, players have long been curious about the immensity of CD Projekt Red’s upcoming action role-playing game. Fortunately, people who are looking forward to the highly-anticipated game can now visualize the concrete jungle of Night City through a physical copy of the map leaked online. The map also comes with physical postcards set to be bundled with the game’s boxed version.
The (Vertical) Vastness of Night City
Producer Richard Borzymowski told GamesRadar in August 2019: “If you look at the pure surface [in terms of] square kilometers, then Cyberpunk 2077 might even be a little bit smaller than The Witcher 3, but it’s the density of the content, taking the world of The Witcher and squeezing it right in, deleting the wilderness between.
Game developer CD Projekt Red has previously said Cyberpunk 2077’s Night City will be slightly smaller than the world of its 2015 Game of The Year winner, The Witcher 3. Still, it has more density as the areas to be explored are extended vertically.
“In The Witcher, we were an open world with vast lanes and forests in between smaller cities and larger cities like Novigrad, but in Cyberpunk 2077, we’re set in Night City.
“It’s an integral part of the setting; it’s essentially a protagonist if you want to call it that, so it has to be denser. It wouldn’t give us the end effect we wanted to achieve if the city wouldn’t be believable […], so we packed it full of life.”
This could imply that compared to the vast terrestrial landscape of The Witcher 3, gamers might be exploring, and possibly looting and exhausting every available side quest within high-rise structures and skyscrapers.
Cyberpunk 2022 creator Mike Pondsmith spoke about the freedom that players would have in the game. He stated that his team wanted to let players find their way to navigate the world from the beginning of the game.
Looking forward to the release date
Aside from the mentioned map and postcards, the boxed copy will also include a reversible cover, stickers, and a setting compendium.
Cyberpunk 2077 will be out next month, releasing on Steam and GOG this November 19th. CD Projekt Red was heavily criticized after it announced the studio would be crunching to make the release date possible.
