With multi-colored lights and jets of water blasting into the night sky, UAE’s Dubai effectively claimed the Guinness World Record for the largest fountain as it unveils the Palm Fountain on Thursday, October 22.

Spanning 2,519 square meters, the Palm Fountain is a sight to behold. One only needs to visit The Pointe in Dubai’s waterfront Palm Jumeirah area to see it up close. It boasts of 128 super shooters with a 105-meter reach apiece, taking the title upon unveiling.

“This is a historic moment for Nakheel Malls and further underscores our commitment to bring new and unique experiences for the benefit of all stakeholders,” says Omar Khoory, Managing Director of the Nakheel Malls.

Toppled record of the Banpo Moonlight Rainbow Fountain

The launch event toppled the record held by South Korea’s Banpodaegyo Bridge Moonlight Rainbow Fountain. The former record holder is a 1,140-meter fountain on Banpo Bridge, Hangang, South Korea. It is no less beautiful, with its colored water raining down in the messy arcs of the double-decker bridge.

Like the Banpo Bridge Fountain, the Palm Fountain also features colored lights. There are color and brightness controls and music that plays every 30 minutes, too.

Tourism and the Palm Fountain

Asset director Gail Sangster said that the fountain is a fine addition to Dubai’s attractions, especially post-COVID-19.

Khoory called it a celebratory symbol of Dubai’s resilience. He also said that the unveiling and launch event would hopefully drive traffic to The Pointe.

The launch event for the record-breaking fountain aired via live-streaming. Visitors staying at The Pointe also attended it. They had the usual festivities – DJs, dance shows, and fireworks. For safety, they observed the strictest health and safety measures.

A lovely attraction, the world’s largest fountain, is a new setting in Dubai. It is for the tourists and residents to enjoy along with their families and friends and will be open all year round.
